1964

What an incredible year in both 1:1 and in the model car world. 1964 saw the introduction of the GTO and Mustang and Barracuda. The 426 HEMI could be had at any Plymouth or Dodge dealer. The Chevelle added to the line up a choice of 5 different models at Chevrolet. Personally I got to go to my first big time car race. The Indy 500. See Memories tab for short video. Lots was happening in the 1/25th world as well.

Some of the 1964 AMT kits

Johan went to flat boxes for both series of model kits. Each featured factory photos of the car represented. They would keep this box stile up to 1968. Working at a hobby shop back then . The owner was not happy with the large amount of damaged kits due to this flat box.

The 98 cent kits were continued.

A new player entered the market MPC. Model Plastics Corporation. Formed by former AMT employee. They released their first kit. A Corvette Fastback. This kit featured a more detailed chassis and interior than the AMT kit. From this mustard seed a mighty company would grow.
